John in L.A.

Hello world!

Posted by John on August 12, 2008

Like my wonderful sister, Kate, I find myself quite eager to start a blog simply because the idea of a website devoted entirely to me is so utterly fantastic.  It seems strangely glorious.  A chance for genius.  A chance for truth, and for justice.  A chance to cater to egomaniacal tendencies without getting arrested or publically humiliated.  A chance to tell the world that I, John Erik Englund, have something so very important to say that it deserves the attention of every man, woman, and child with a computer, an attention span, and the ability to read a decisive misuse of the english language.

But seriously.

Here is what is going on here.  After 24* (which, according to many, especially Mindy Anderson, is the perfect number in EVERY respect) fantastic and adventure-filled years in Oregon, I have ditched my loving hometown and have moved to Los Angeles to be a graduate student at USC.  I have probably moved temporarily.  I have definitely NOT moved for another 24 years.  That would be very not perfect in EVERY respect.

One may say – “So why a blog?”. To which I reply – “Why not a blog?”. End of discussion.

Actually this is a place to document, vent, and share anything notable, ridiculous, awe-inspiring, or tear-jerking during my tenure in Sow-Cahl.

More to come.

*Many would probably argue that if 24 is indeed the perfect number, and since your 24th year should therefore be the best year of your life (another Dr. M. Anderson conjecture), why ruin it for yourself by moving to L.A.?  That is a great argument.  I have no response.

I think your blog qualifies as a KNOCK-OFF of my blog. But I love it all the same. Attempting to compare LA to places as hardcore as the Somali region is rather fitting.

Not sure how I got rid of the Categories…but I think if anyone could figure it out it would be you Mr. I’m getting a Masters in Computer Science but really I am going to take over the music jazz scene of the greather LA area.

Utterly hysterical. You’re irreverence does me proud! Thanks for the LOL trip through your new blog and for the trip to LA LA LAND, if only to prove to myself, once again, there’s a reason I moved to Oregon.

Hey- I just want to say I love you have a blog and it made me smile. You are missed at the house but it’s good to hear what’s going on in your life. Come home and visit soon and hopefully I will be able to visit you soon…maybe bring some people from Portland with me too!
